Things to see and do:

  • Trout Fishing - we are ideally located in the heart of the magnificent Buller River fishery. Fishing is excellent - a style that involves spotting and stalking large brown trout in crystal clear rivers, described by many as the best of its kind in the world. Click here to read more
  • Walks - lots of interesting and scenic 20 minute to 5 hour walks. Click here for details
  • Scenic and Whitewater Rafting - superb stretches of river for the first timer as well as the more experienced. The area offers Grade 2 to Grade 4 runs through the magnificent scenery of the Buller Gorge.
  • 4x4 Drives - follow some of the early pioneer trails through spectacular scenery - there may even be some ford crossings!
  • Wineries - take a day trip and drive through the scenic Buller Gorge and St Arnaud - gateway to Nelson Lakes National Park, to the Wairau Valley - home of the famous Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc. Or visit the wineries of Nelson.
  • West Coast - beautiful Tauranga Bay is a famous surfing spot, a fur seal colony (cubs are born November through March) and the highly rated Bay House Cafe for lunch overlooking the bay. Great walks along the beach, and around Cape Foulwind.
  • Scenic Helicopter Flights - a wide range of trips over the top of the South Island, including two of the most spectacular locations used in Lord of the Rings.
  • Birdwatching - see the Korimako (Bellbird), Tui, Kereru, Kaka, Kakariki and Kea around Korimako. The Nelson Lakes National Park Mainland Island Bird Sanctuary is also well worth a visit.
  • Star Gazing - clear skies most of the year makes Korimako a great place to view stars, planets and satellites. We can provide you with a daily star chart for the Southern Hemisphere.
  • Gold Panning - an activity as old as Murchison itself which is steeped in gold mining history and so why not take a pan and fossick for gold.
  • Golf - a lovely 9-hole golf course set alongside the Buller River with views of the mountains. Clubs are available for hire.
  • Trekking - good high country and valley tracks - particularly the Nelson Lakes region, Matakitaki Valley and Matiri Range. Central access to Kahurangi and Nelson Lakes National Parks.
  • Mountain Biking - mountain bikes are available for hire in Murchison, and Korimako has road bikes available for you to use.
  • Boating - a water taxi service is available on Lakes Rotoiti and Rotoroa in Nelson Lakes National Park.

We are happy to advise and arrange activities and tours for you. Make your stay in our historic and unspoiled district a stay to remember.
